About the Client

When Cummins Inc., a key player in automotive industry, decided to invest in Turkey, the plan was to setup the manufacturing plant in Aegean Free Trade Zone. The Project started with a production line for filtration then expanded with alternator production line.

The company decided to work with DCS after an evaluation process by an experienced Global Trade Compliance team so that customs procedures, free zone procedures and accounting can be digitised all together for better trade compliance and process management.

About the Problem

To be able to track and harmonize Free Zone System (SBBUP), Ministry of Trade System (BILGE) and company in-house stock records through, capacity reports, manufacture information sheets (UBF) and BOMs and manage wastes through a single compliant tool.

About DCS’s Approach to the Problem

DCS consultancy and IT teams came together with Cummins Global and local teams of Trade Compliance and IT to review each and every procedure and implement solutions into DCS’s Free Trade Zone Module and to integrate both systems with SOAP web services to receive and send data, process data to populate datasets for Free Zone Entry & Exit Forms, Manufacturing Information Sheets and accounting together with synchronization of all relevant systems.

About the the Solution

DCS’s Free Trade Zone Module, developed and customised to comply with relevant legislation in force, made a seamless and error free data flow between the parties to use the data for procedures, create documents and have a better synchronized data between Free Zone, Ministry of Trade and Cummins’s ERP systems. Process automation functions were also further developed.

About the Result

By using a holistic evaluation for the problem, the teams mutually managed Cummins’ Investment to benefit a compliant process automation, eased the administrative burden on both parties, shortened the lead times and reduced human input to minimize errors.
